Submit Your Story
We can’t do this alone. You, in fact, put the “citizen” in Citizen Wayne. We are always on the look-out for story ideas that pop.
Citizen Wayne broadcasts monologues, interviews, short documentaries, and investigative features reporting. Although we give preference to original content, we are not opposed to content that has appeared in other media, as long as we can obtain the rights to re-broadcast it.
We tend to focus especially on narrative — we’re not looking for a standard vanilla features story. Is there a conflict? What are the broader problems faced by the subject or subjects of the story? And, to quote our therapist, how does that make you feel? We need these questions answered before the audience knows how they feel.
What we’re looking for:
- Work that speaks about the Fort Wayne/Allen County experience. Does it involve a local landmark or establishment? We want our listeners to feel connected to the story.
- Originality. Don’t send us a press release for an event or organization. Likewise, we’re not trying to replace a news program.
- The off-beat. The surprising. The introspective.
How to submit:
- Via email: submit@citizenwayne.org.
- Via snail mail: Northeast Indiana Public Radio, Attn: Citizen Wayne / PO Box 8459 / Fort Wayne, IN 46898.
- Via this website’s contact form.
We’re looking for a proposal, outlining your story idea, describing the narrative style and how you’re going to present the style. Be prepared to further answer questions, so provide your email and a telephone number where we can reach you. Remember, journalism is a collaborative process, so we may suggest changes or try to work with you to get the story to match our style. The more you are flexible, the better your story’s chance to be broadcast.
And finally, don’t be scared. We won’t bite, and we genuinely want to hear from you. If you have a half-developed idea, or you know what you want to say, but you don’t know how to say it, we think it’s still worthy to pitch. A story will stand on its own merits, and we want to help you find it.
